Local WWII Soldier to be Laid to Rest

Sgt. Norman H. Drewes will be coming home in late May. He was killed in action on the first day of the invasion of the North Mariana Island of Saipan (Operation Forage) on June 15, 1944, his remains were not identified until late last Summer, thanks to DNA samples provided by his only living sibling, my mother Bernita Brubaker, along with samples from my first cousin Bill Schwiebert and my own. Burial will be at his home church, Hope Lutheran, 16 OH-18, Hamler, OH 43524on Saturday May 24, 2025, with full military honors, as provided by U.S. Army. His casketed remains will be flown into Detroit airport 2-3 days prior for arrival at Rodenberger-Gray funeral home in Napoleon.
